How to take donations on Discord
A donation here is a pay-what-you-want item. You set a minimum, the member types what they want to give, and the money goes straight to your PayPal or Stripe. Attach a role as a thank-you, or leave it off for a plain tip jar.
Before you start
You need a store with our bot in your server and PayPal or Stripe connected. If that isn't done yet, the first four parts of How to sell Discord roles cover it.
Make the donation item
- Click Products, then New product. Name it something like Tip Jar or Support the Server.
- Set Billing type to One-time.
- Set Pricing to Pay what you want (one-time only).
- Fill in Minimum price. Members can give that much or more.
- Click Create product.
Thank donors with a role
On the item, scroll to Role grants, click Choose a role, pick your supporter role and click Add grant. Every donor gets it, whatever they gave, and keeps it. Skip this part if you only want tips.
What your members see
On your store the item shows Name your price and an amount box. The member types an amount, picks PayPal or card, and pays. If the item has a role, they log in with Discord first, and the bot adds the role right after the payment goes through.
Monthly supporters
Pay-what-you-want is for one-time gifts. For people who want to chip in every month, make a monthly item at a fixed price, or a few at different prices. The monthly roles guide walks through it.
Good to know
- Coupon codes don't apply to pay-what-you-want items, since the member already picks the amount.
- PayPal and Stripe still charge their usual fee on each payment. We take nothing from the sale.
- Every donation shows up under Transactions with the ID PayPal or Stripe gave it.
