How to set up paid Discord roles that renew every month

A role that renews works like a membership. The member pays every month, keeps the role while they pay, and loses it when they stop. You don't have to touch anything once it's set up.

Before you start

You need a store with our bot in your server and PayPal or Stripe connected. If that isn't done yet, the first four parts of How to sell Discord roles cover it.

Make the monthly item

  1. Click Products, then New product, and name it after the tier, like Supporter or VIP.
  2. Set the Price. Leave Billing type on Recurring and Billing interval on Month.
  3. Want a yearly option too? Click Add another price and set its Billing interval to Year. Members pick one when they buy.
  4. Click Create product. Then under Role grants, click Choose a role, pick the role and click Add grant.

More than one tier? Make one item per tier, each with its own role.

Free trials and coupons

To let new members try it first, set Trial to Free trial and pick how many days. Each member gets one trial, so nobody can rack them up. Coupon codes live under Coupons in the menu, and a code can take money off the first payment, the first few, or every one.

When a member stops paying

  • A member who cancels keeps the role until the time they paid for runs out. Then the bot removes it.
  • If a renewal fails, the member keeps the role while PayPal or Stripe try the charge again. If those tries run out, the bot removes it.
  • Members cancel on their own from Your purchases, so nobody has to message you to stop.

Every renewal shows up under Transactions as its own payment, with the ID PayPal or Stripe gave it, and we take no fee on your sales.
