How to sell Discord roles

Selling a role takes four things: the role itself, a store, our bot in your server, and a PayPal or Stripe account for the money. Here's the whole setup, with the names of the buttons you'll click.

Make the role in Discord

  1. Click your server's name at the top left, then Server Settings, then Roles.
  2. Click Create Role, name it (Supporter, VIP, whatever fits) and click Save Changes.

Whatever the role unlocks is set in Discord as usual: a private channel, a colored name, a spot on a game server whitelist. The bot only adds and removes the role.

Create your store

  1. Create a free account with your Discord login.
  2. Click Create a storefront. Under Discord server, pick your server and click Create storefront.

You land on the store's Overview page. Its Finish setting up list walks the rest of this guide in the same order.

Add the bot to your server

  1. Under Finish setting up, click Add the bot. Discord opens in a new tab.
  2. Pick your server, click Continue, then Authorize, and close the tab.
  3. Back on our page, click Verify bot. It should say Bot joined.
  4. In Discord, open Server Settings, then Roles, and drag the GlassRelay role above every role you plan to sell.

That last step is the one people miss. Discord only lets a bot hand out roles that sit below its own, so a bot whose role is lower can't give anyone the role they paid for.

Connect PayPal or Stripe

Click Connect payments. Choose Connect Stripe and we set up a Stripe account for your store, or Connect PayPal and paste in the keys from the PayPal account you already get paid through. You can switch on both, and members pick one at checkout. Either way the money goes straight to you, and we take no fee on your sales.

Put the role up for sale

  1. Click Products in the menu on the left, then New product.
  2. Give it a Name and a Price. For a role people buy once and keep, set Billing type to One-time. Leave it on Recurring for a role that renews every month (the monthly roles guide covers that one).
  3. Click Create product.
  4. Scroll down to Role grants, click Choose a role, pick your role, and click Add grant.

Open the store and share the link

Back on Overview, click Open storefront, then Copy your link. Post it in an announcement or a pinned message. Members log in with Discord on your store, so the bot knows who to give the role to, then pay with PayPal or a card. The role usually shows up before they're back in Discord.

After the sale

Every sale shows up under Transactions with the ID PayPal or Stripe gave it, so you can look it up on their side too. You can refund from there in one click and choose whether the member keeps the role.
